Let's not forget the future of medicine depends on the junk DNA

The non-coding genome corresponds with the fraction of the genome which does not store protein-coding sequences. This constitutes ~98% of the human genome.

For a long time, the non-coding genome, was considered to be non-functional and dubbed as junk DNA. Today we know that this misnamed junk DNA is responsible for the cause and development of a large number of diseases. The reason for this lies on the importance of regulatory elements, such as, enhancers, which are located in the non-coding genome and are critical for the proper control of gene expression.

Looking in perspective, it becomes quite evident that we should be more cautious when naming things that we do not understand.
